Falcons linebacker Brooks Reed, who struggled with a groin injury over the offseason, and rookie running back Tevin Coleman did not practice Wednesday.

Reed has a hip strain and Coleman was out with a hamstring strain.

Reed, who played four seasons with the Houston Texans, was the Falcons’ major free-agent pickup this offseason. He signed a five-year, $22 million contract, with $9 million guaranteed.

Coleman, who was selected in the third round of the draft out of Indiana, is competing with second-year back Devonta Freeman to win to the starting slot. Coleman has received reps with the first-team offense.

Also, tight end Beau Gardner left practice after twisting his knee and right guard Jon Asamoah had an upset stomach and didn’t finished practice. Defensive end Cliff Matthews (left ankle) did not practice.
