Defensive end Quinton Coples, who was released by the New York Jets on Monday, may be of some interest to the Atlanta Falcons, who have the worst pass rush in the league.

Coples, 25, who was selected with the 16th pick overall in 2012, has 16.5 career sacks. He had 5.5 sacks as a rookie. He had 4.5 in 2013 and 6.5 in 2014.

Coples, who’s 6-foot-6 and 284 pounds, played defensive at North Carolina. He played defensive end for the Jets as a rookie before being moved to outside linebacker, where he struggled.

He has a reputation for taking plays off and new Jets coach Todd Bowles had reduced his playing time significantly.

The Falcons have just 12 sacks on the season, which is tied for last in the league with the New York Giants.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn, a former defensive line coach, and Bryan Cox, the team’s current defensive line coach, might be able to light a fire under Coples.
