Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan surpassed 50,000 yards passing for his career early in the first quarter on Sunday. In the game against the Panthers, Ryan tossed a 14-yard pass to wide receiver Russell Gage for the milestone.

Ryan entered the game needing 34 yards. He had 21 yards passing before connecting with Gage on a 14-yard pass.

New Orleans’ Drew Brees (76,228) and New England’s Tom Brady (73,782) are the top two passers in league history and are still adding to their totals entering Sunday’s games.

Also, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Philip Rivers (58,090), Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger (56,545), the New York Giants’ Eli Manning (56,537) and Ryan are active players rank in the top 10. Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers (46,009) is chasing.

Peyton Manning at 71,940 is in third place followed by Brett Favre (71,838) and Dan Marino (61,391).
