Falcons tight ends coach Chris Scelfo, who's been with the team since 2008, is reportedly set to interview for the vacant UAB Head coaching job, according to report by AL.com.
Texts to the Falcons and the Scelfo were not immediately returned.
Scelfo, 50, was the head coach at Tulane from 1999-2006 and guided the team during a season on the road after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He posted a 37-57 record and won two bowl games, the 1998 Liberty Bowl and the 2002 Hawaii Bowl.
He wrote a book about the difficult season titled “Fourth and New Orleans: How Tulane Football Survived the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina” with Benjamin Hochman.
Scelfo started his career as a graduate assistant at Northeastern Louisiana (which is now Louisiana-Monroe) and Oklahoma. He served as an assistant coach at Marshall and Georgia (1996-98). He was the assistant head coach/offensive line for the Bulldogs until Tulane hired him to replace Tommy Bowden.
