In the Falcons’ base defense Brooks Reed and Derrick Shelby were used as the defensive ends on Saturday.
The Falcons are also counting on Vic Beasley and Adrian Clayborn in their nickel package to bring some pressure this season.
The pressure coming for the defensive end positions was solid during the first padded practice of training camp.
“It’s something that I’m going to evaluate each day,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “There will be highs and lows with all of the stuff that we are doing. The one-ones, I’m looking at. That was our first day in pads.
“When we do it in a five-on-four group, that’s really when I want to see it dig in because we are not going to get near the quarterback. I was pleased in terms of the get-off I saw, but it’s something that we are looking at hard every day and we are going to keep digging on that topic.”
