A night of firsts in NFL Draft’s first round

It was the first time three Georgia Bulldogs players were taken in the first round

• It was the first time three Georgia Bulldogs players -- Roquan Smith (No. 8, Chicago); Isaiah Wynn (No. 23, New England); and Sony Michel (No. 31, New England) were taken in the first round.

Smith became the fifth defensive player from Georgia to be selected with a top-ten pick.

• The Crimson Tide have had at least one player selected in the first round in each of the past 10 drafts. The Atlanta Falcons drafted Calvin Ridley, WR, with the 26th overall pick.

Overall there were nine SEC players taken in the first round, Alabama led with four players selected.

• North Carolina State's Bradley Chubb - a Marietta native - is the third player in school history to be selected as a top-five selection.

• It was the third time at least five quarterbacks -- Baker Mayfield (No. 1, Cleveland);  Sam Darnold (No. 3, New York Jets); Josh Allen (No. 7, Buffalo); Josh Rosen (No. 10, Arizona); and Lamar Jackson (No. 32, Baltimore) -- have been selected in the draft’s opening round since 1967. It was the first time four quarterbacks were selected in the top-10 picks.

The 1983 NFL Draft holds the record with six quarterbacks selected in the first round, including Pro Football Hall of Famers John Elway, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino.

• Tremaine Edmunds (No. 16, Buffalo) and Terrell Edmunds (No. 28, Pittsburgh) are the first pair of brothers to be selected in the first round of the same NFL Draft.

A third Edmunds brother, Trey, is a running back for the New Orleans Saints. Their father, Ferrell Edmunds, was a two-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks.
