During Falcons minicamp, defensive line coach Bryan Cox broke out a new training exercise.
It was a drill focused on improving player’s flexibility. He had the players working on their hip rotation throughout individual workouts.
The new exercise was geared towards improving the pass rush. The Falcons had 19 sacks last season and ranked among the league’s worst in that category.
Several players enjoyed the workout. They said it helped them get more explosion off the ball.
“Coach Cox, coach (Dan)Quinn and even coach (Richard) Smith have done a great job working with me to get my hips flipped and angle towards the quarterback,” Falcons linebacker Tyler Starr said. “That is something I struggled with even this year. I’m trying to slowly make a progression and get better at it.”
Adrian Clayborn agreed with Starr. He saw it make a big difference for him this offseason.
“I was just working on getting in shape and working on my flexibility,” Clayborn said. “When I got here, it was working on my get offs and providing my speed around the edge.”
