Falcons offensive tackle Jake Matthews is looking forward to the challenge of blocking Oakland’s Khalil Mack, who’s turning into one of the league’s top pass rushers.

Mack was selected by the Raiders with the fifth pick of the 2014 draft. Matthews was selected by the Falcons with the next pick.

Jadeveon Clowney went No. 1 overall in that draft to Houston, but Mack is off to a more impressive pro start.

Mack, a former star at the University at Buffalo, emerged last season with 15 sacks and was named All-Pro.

Mathews and right tackle Ryan Schraeder are getting ready to face Mack, who moves around in the Raiders’ scheme.

“He’s a factor, and it’s really how hard that he comes, and he brings it,” Quinn said. “We certainly have our attention where he is. I think the thing that jumps out the most is how hard he goes.”

Mack doesn’t quit on plays and has a high motor.

“It might not be the initial move (with) him, but the relentless pursuit oftentimes is a big factor,” Quinn said.

The Raiders added free agent linebacker Bruce Irvin, who had a sack in Oakland’s opening win over the Saints.

“Irvin and Mack, those two guys are excellent edge rushers that do a great job,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said.
