Although fully dressed out, rookie wide receiver Devin Fuller did not participate in Saturday’s Falcons’ minicamp because of a hamstring strain.

Coach Dan Quinn said coaches held Fuller out as a precaution.

“He was close. He had a little strain of his hamstring today, so we decided to have him do some individual today in hopes that he can get rolling with the group this week and not have any setbacks,” Quinn said. “It was more just a coaches decision to limit him and hold him so we have him at his best moving forward.”

Fuller, a seventh-round draft pick out of UCLA, stood on the sidelines actively watching the activities Saturday. Seen with his helmet on, Fuller was fully engaged during the practice as he watched other wide receivers preforming drills on special teams and offense.

“I thought I’d be a little slower at learning (the scheme), but I picked it up pretty nicely,” Fuller said. “It means a lot that (the Falcons) drafted me. I take big thanks to the coaches and the higher ups that put faith in me, but now everyone’s here and it’s time to work. Everyone’s here for a reason to make the team, so I’m doing the same thing.”

Fuller had only 24 catches in his senior season and occasionally was featured on kickoff and return teams.

“I feel like every rookie, if you’re not a first- or second-round draft pick, has to play special teams, and I’m open for that challenge,” Fuller said. “I feel like I can do special teams. It’s one thing I worked on in my college career.”
