Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver and Falcons nemesis, Lance Moore, signed with the team on Friday.
The team announced the move before their Friday Night Lights event at Grayson High.
The Falcons also signed linebacker Dominique Tovell and released wide receiver Chris King.
The Falcons had an open roster spot after linebacker Torrey Green was released Thursday. He was let go after the team discovered he was being investigated for rape and sexual-assault allegations in Utah.
Moore tried out for the San Diego Chargers this week, but they elected to sign former Green Bay Packer James Jones.
Moore played for the Detroit Lions last season and caught 29 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns.
However, most Falcons fans know him from his days with the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2013. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014.
Moore, 32, is 5-foot-9 and 177 pounds. He will join a crowded group of receivers behind Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Justin Hardy.
Moore caught a career-high 79 passes for 928 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2008 season. In 2012, he had 1,041 yards receiving for the Saints.
Moore, who played at Toledo and was undrafted, has played 129 NFL games and has made 40 starts. The crafty route runner has amassed 389 catches for 4,816 yards and 44 touchdowns.
Moore played 14 games against the Falcons while with the Saints and helped them to an 11-3 mark in those games.
Moore’s two biggest games against the Falcons came losses.
In 2010, he caught six passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder, but the Falcons won 27-24 in overtime on Sept. 26.
In 2012, Moore had seven catches for 123 yards in a 23-13 Falcons’ victory on Nov. 29, 2012.
Falcons assistant head coach/wide receivers Raheem Morris is overseeing a fierce competition within his position group.
Jones is the clear No. 1. Sanu is being pushed by Hardy.
The spots behind the top three are being hotly contested early in training camp and now, Moore will jump into the mix.
“Aldrick Robinson, (Jordan) Leslie, J.D. (McKissic) and some of our young guys in David Glidden, a bunch of guys are fighting,” Morris said. “Some of our new guys, they’ve really been a pleasant addition to the team.”
Nick Williams, who made the team last season, is playing well.
“He does a lot of nice things,” Morris said.
Also, Corey Washington, who was signed recently, has made some nice catches in practice.
Morris didn’t even mention seven-rounder Devin Fuller and veteran Eric Weems and both of them are playing well, too.
Tovell played at Louisiana-Lafayette and was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent. He was waived after the Saints re-signed safety Roman Harper on June 7.
