With punter and kickoff specialist Matt Bosher nursing a sore groin, the Falcons signed punter Matt Wile to the practice squad Wednesday.
They also signed offensive linemen Nate Wozniak and released defensive end Austin Larkin and tight end Carson Meier.
“No. 1, having experience not only here, but elsewhere was a big piece of it,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said of Wile. “If we have to go that way, it’s important from punting side that they can kickoff as well.”
Bosher suffered the injury in pregame warm-ups Sunday. Wide Receiver Mohamed Sanu practiced punting in warm-ups. Matt Bryant ended up taking over the kickoff duties.
Quinn said he can wait until Saturday to see if Bosher heals enough to punt.
“We had some excellent guys in for workouts and all of them did well,” Quinn said. “We have some familiarity with Matt is good. He’s got the ability to hold. He’s held before. He’s kicked off. He hit a lot of the markers that we were hoping to see. Then in his workout he did well, too.”
Wile, 27, was signed to the Falcons in November 2016, but later released. After his stint with the Falcons, Wile was on Arizona’s practice squad in 2016 and 2017. He also has spent time with the Steelers and Vikings.
In addition to Wile and Wozniak, the team reported tryouts with punter Sam Irwin-Hill, linebacker Robert McCray, cornerback Quenton Meeks, cornerback D.J. White, long snapper Nick Moore, defensive end Carroll Phillips and kicker Kaare Vedvik.
