Coach Mike Smith and the Falcons coaching staff was selected by the league Thursday to coach the 2014 Senior Bowl the week of January 20-25 in Mobile. Ala.
Smith has never coached the Senior Bowl, but defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has been on the Senior Bowl coaching staff nine times. The Falcons see it as an opportunity to study some of the prospects, who will be available in the upcoming NFL draft, May 8-10.

Gus Bradley and the Jacksonville staff will also coach at the Senior Bowl.
“We are so happy to have the Falcons and Jaguars as the two NFL coaching staffs this year,” said Phil Savage, the Senior Bowl’s executive director. “We could not be more pleased. These organizations will do an amazing job in Mobile.”
It’s the third time the Falcons have coached in the Reese’s Senior Bowl (1967, 1978) and the second time the Jaguars have coached (2009).
The Falcons will coach the North team.
“We have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time at the Senior Bowl over the last six years, but this is the first time we will have the chance to coach the game,” Smith said. “The week of practice provides a great opportunity to get to know these players on a personal level, but being able to coach these young men will give us the ability to work hands on with them and evaluate them. We look forward to coaching the 2014 Senior Bowl.”
*Also, the Falcons have been denied permission by the Minnesota Vikings to interview their offensive line coach Jeff Davidson, according to a Fox Sports report. The Falcons fired offensive line coaches Pat Hill and Paul Dunn on Monday.
