The Falcons are likely to let the NFL’s 4 p.m. Tuesday trade deadline pass quietly.
Head coach Dan Quinn didn’t sound optimistic about the team making a deal with the deadline approaching. Also, general manager Thomas Dimitroff has stated his position on in-season trades in the past.
“One of the good things about Thomas and I and our connection is that’s not something where we just wait until one time to make those kind of decisions,” said Quinn when asked about the trade deadline. “Those are conversations that we have all the way through. If there is ever a chance to, like we’ve said all along, to improve or help our team in any way, we’ll definitely consider those. But there is nothing that is a topic tonight, not more so than any other time.”
Back in 2013, as the season was going up in flames, the Falcons wouldn’t trade to get help at wide receiver after Julio Jones injury nor would they entertain offers to trade tight end Tony Gonzalez.
“Philosophically I’m not a big proponent of trading during the season,” Dimitroff said at the time, “because there’s so much involved in trying to learn a system, and there are aspects of team chemistry that we’re mindful of.”
Chicago, San Francisco and Houston are teams looking for trading partners, according to CBS Sports. Also, Cleveland is shopping players according to several sources.
The Falcons have been having trouble at center and with their pass rush. Cleveland’s Pro Bowl center Alex Mack could be available.
