Bill Mallory, the winningest coach in Indiana University history, died peacefully Friday, according to the school.

Mallory, 82, who also was a head coach at Colorado, is the father of Doug Mallory, the Falcons’ defensive backs coach. He had brain surgery after a fall Tuesday and did not recover.

Mallory posted a 168-129-4 as head coach. He also coached at Miami (Ohio) and Northern Illinois. He took Indiana, where he coached from 1984 to 1996, to six bowl games.

Mallory was Indiana’s winningest football coach as he posted a 69-77-3 record for the Hoosiers.  He was inducted into the IU Hall of Fame in 2002.

Doug Mallory has been with the Falcons since the 2015 season.
