East Los Angeles College safety Antoinette “Toni” Harris , received a scholarship offer from Bethany College in Kansas making her the second woman to receive a scholarship from a football program.
Harris, who has played one season at East Los Angeles community college, announced the offer from the NAIA program on Twitter on Wednesday.
“A lot of coaches didn’t believe in me,” the 5-foot-6 safety from Detroit said in an interview with ESPN. “A coach told me nobody’s ever going to play you to be at the next level. In the end, you’ve got to push yourself. I’m going to focus on my goals.”
Harris is the second woman to receive a scholarship offer from a college football program after kicker Becca Longo signed with Division-II Adams State in Colorado in April.
