Falcons rookie Robert Alford has the week off from his weekly diary for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Free safety Thomas DeCoud, a native of Vallejo, Calif., stepped in for the rookie. The team’s starting free safety is excited about playing against his former teammate at California, Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch.
Here’s the latest installment, as told to D. Orlando Ledbetter.
Seattle may want revenge from the (Falcons’) playoff victory (in last season’s divisional round). It was the last game from the previous season, and they probably want to get that bad taste out of their mouths. I expect them to be (fired) up and have all of the excitement and energy in the world. It’s a big game. I’m sure they’ll have a little chip on their shoulders from the playoff game.
I love playing against (Seattle running back) Marshawn (Lynch). We’ve been playing either with or against each other since high school. To be able to go against him at the professional level is always fun. I always enjoy it. We are always shooting and cracking jokes back and forth at the bottom of piles. If I make a tackle we are always joking and laughing. We always have fun playing each other.
You’re kind of hoping that you meet up with him so that you can have a little fun. Crack a joke here and there. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him. Seeing Beast Mode.
Right now, we just have to stay the course. We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves or get too low on ourselves for what we’ve put out there so far. We just have got to keep that even keel and make sure that we go out and know what we have to do. We have to make sure that we don’t go off the reservation and do anything extra.
They have the read-option (offense), but (quarterback Russell Wilson) is extremely adapt at extending plays to throw the ball. Obviously, he can run the ball. If it’s wide open, he’s going to tuck it and get what he can.
