Georgia Tech defensive end Kenderius Whitehead’s career is over. Coach Paul Johnson said Friday after the team’s second practice that he will be put on medical scholarship. Johnson also said that long snapper Trevor Stroebel will transfer.

Johnson did not specify the nature of Whitehead’s career-ending condition.

“Just a medical,” he said.

Whitehead came to Tech as a much-anticipated addition in 2014, a signee from Georgia Military College. He had been a junior-college All-American in his lone season there after first enrolling at N.C. State in 2012 and redshirting there. However, after sitting out the 2014 season as a transfer, he did not contribute much on the field last season, his only year on the field with the Yellow Jackets. He played in two games, the wins over Alcorn State and Tulane.

Johnson said Thursday that offensive lineman Jake Whitley is also being placed on medical scholarship, which terminates eligibility.

Stroebel played two seasons, 2013 and 2014, including all 14 games the latter season as the team’s short snapper. He did not play the 2015 season with an injury. On his Facebook account, Stroebel wrote that he was transferring to Northwestern. He is on track to graduate at the end of the summer term and, upon graduating, could have immediate eligibility at an FBS school as a graduate transfer. He would have two years of eligibility.

Casey Wilson long snapped in all 12 games last season, taking the snaps for punts and placement kicks.
