Post-game comments from Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner, center Ben Lammers, forward Quinton Stephens and guard Josh Okogie following the Yellow Jackets’ 71-60 loss to Miami Wednesday in Coral Gables, Fla.
Josh Pastner
“We had some empty possessions and when you look at the way they shot the ball against our defense, that’s a recipe for disaster.”
On Ben Lammers:
“He didn’t play real well today, and if he doesn’t play well, then it’s hard for us. And he hadn’t practiced and I don’t know if he was off his rhythm. He hasn’t practiced based on his ankle. It’s not an excuse; just guys aren’t practicing because of injuries, but nothing I can do about that.”
On the free-throw disparity:
“We got our butt kicked on the glass. I do know that if Miami shoots 27 free throws and we shoot three, it’s awfully hard for us to win a game.”
“How many layups did we miss today? It was just surreal again. It’s just frustrating. I love our guys because they just give you every ounce of effort. We had a couple missed layups the first half. We had a couple key misses the second half and our margin for error is just zero and those (misses), it just makes it hard.”
Ben Lammers
“We missed some easy shots. We had fairly good energy, but we could have done a lot better. Our defense wasn’t great, obviously, as compared to how it has been. Not everything came together tonight.”
“I think we had a chance to kind of help secure our position a little more and we didn’t take advantage. It’s hard to steal a win on the road in the ACC, but we had a chance to catch up a little bit.”
Josh Okogie
“We just didn’t play our game defensively. Scoring wasn’t a problem. I actually felt like we did good offensively. We just didn’t hold the other team to the defensive standard that we hold everybody else, and I think that was the key in the biggest picture today.”
“They stayed aggressive the whole game. We didn’t do a good job of matching their energy. Like I said, we played good offensively, but we just couldn’t get that defensive structure going.”
Quinton Stephens
“We’ve just got to play better. I’ve got to play better for us to win games like this.”
“They were getting to the line. We’ve got to finish. They’re not going to make calls on the road, and we’re strong enough to make those plays. We’ve just got to finish.”
“We were always in striking distance. We’ve just got to take care of the ball a little bit more. We had too many turnovers to play on the road.”
