Georgia’s Jeb Blazevich is in familiar territory this week. Almost too familiar.

The Bulldogs’ practice site for the Belk Bowl is Charlotte Country Day School. Blazevich attended school three miles from CCDS at Charlotte Christian School. As one might expect, they were intense football rivals.

“Without a doubt,” said Blazevich, a 6-foot-5, 232-pound freshman tight end. “They’ve got some studs over here. We had some great games.”

Blazevich was proud to report that, while he was playing at least, his Knights dominated the rivalry 3-1. And they won both games Blazevich played on the field on which he practicing this week.

“Once in overtime and once I caught a game-winner in this end zone,” he said, standing behind the north end zone. “That was fun. I’ll never forget that.”

Blazevich had an unforgettable freshman year for the Bulldogs. Despite starting the season behind junior Jay Rome, redshirt freshman Jordan Davis and converted fullback Quayvon Hicks, he ended up as Georgia’s starter at tight end. In fact, he started 10 of the 12 games and finished third on the team with 256 yards on 16 receptions and two touchdowns. He earned freshman All-SEC honors.

“Jeb was the right kind of guy to fill that role as a freshman,” coach Mark Richt said. “Very smart, conscientious. Had spent a good bit of his high school career training for a moment like that.”
