Three storylines for Georgia’s season opener against North Carolina:
1. Kirby Smart's debut. For the first time in 16 years, Georgia will open a football season without Mark Richt as its head coach. Smart is one of nine head coaches in the five power conferences who are coaching at their alma maters, joining Jim Harbaugh (Michigan), David Shaw (Stanford) and Richt (Miami).
2. Nick Chubb's return. The junior running back is slated to see his first game action since a knee injury on the first play against Tennessee ended his 2015 season on Oct. 10. Before the injury, Chubb had 13 consecutive 100-yard rushing games over two seasons. He returns against a North Carolina team that surrendered 645 rushing yards in its Russell Athletic Bowl loss to Baylor last season.
3. Quarterbacks in spotlight. Georgia answered the long-asked question of who would start at quarterback by choosing Greyson Lambert, who started 12 of the Bulldogs' 13 games last season, over 5-star freshman Jacob Eason. North Carolina will turn to junior Mitch Trubisky, who will start his first college game after completing 40 of 47 passes (85 percent) last season as the backup to then-senior Marquise Williams.
