Georgia Tech backup quarterback Justin Thomas will “more than likely” play in Saturday’s game against Miami, coach Paul Johnson said after Wednesday’s practice.

Earlier in the week, Johnson noted that Thomas had had a strong practice on Monday and would earn playing time if he continued it. Johnson said Wednesday that the quarterbacks “have been OK” since then.

Johnson also said that wide receiver DeAndre Smelter will also “more than likely” return punts and kickoffs, though Jemea Thomas is also a possibility. Coaches have also looked at Lynn Griffin and Dennis Andrews in the search for a replacement for Jamal Golden, who is scheduled to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Thursday.
