The Georgia Tech women’s basketball  enters the ACC tournament in an unfamiliar situation – the Yellow Jackets need to win the tournament, which would be the first ACC title in team history, or the season will be over.

Tech will play its first-round game Thursday in Greensboro, N.C. against Wake Forest at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the ACC regional sports networks, including Fox Sports South in the Atlanta market.

At 14-15 overall and 7-11 in the ACC, Tech has no shot at receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. The Jackets’ only chance at a seventh consecutive bid will be the automatic bid received with the ACC tournament title. As the No. 7 seed, Tech has a favorable matchup with the No. 11 seed Demon Deacons. Tech has won 11 of its past 12 games against Wake Forest.

Should the Jackets advance, however, they will face No. 2 seed Maryland. The Terrapins are ranked No. 10 in the country and have beaten Tech 12 of the last 15 meetings. That game would be played at 6 p.m. Friday.

Tech finished the regular season strongly, winning four of its last five after starting ACC play 3-10.
