Georgia Tech’s transportation around south Florida includes a few buses decorated on the sides with larger-than-life photos of Yellow Jackets Jamal Golden, Adam Gotsis, Isaiah Johnson, Shaquille Mason, Quayshawn Nealy and DeAndre Smelter.
They’re photos from the preseason shoot for the team’s media guide and schedule cards. Even for an All-ACC linebacker and team captain, Nealy was quite taken by seeing himself on the side of a bus.
When he first saw it upon the team’s arrival Friday night, “I’m going, I’m on the side of a bus,” Nealy said. “I immediately took a picture and sent it to my mom and I’m like, Mom, look at this here.”
It is a well-earned treat for Nealy, who will wrap up a standout career Wednesday at the Orange Bowl. Nealy grew up in Lakeland, Fla., in the central part of the state.
“It’s a great honor to be on there and represent Georgia Tech,” he said. “And then to be down here in Florida, back in my home state and finish exactly where I started, it’s a great feeling, and I look forward to finishing on a good note.”
Thomas, a more private sort, was not quite as taken with the bus. Thomas said no one had given him a hard time about it “because I’m not the only one on it, so that makes it better.”
