The Georgia Tech men’s basketball will open the 2017-18 season in China playing UCLA.

The Yellow Jackets played Boston College and Southern Methodist in 1986 in Tokyo, Japan in their only other trip to Asia.

“We’re thrilled and excited to be invited to participate in this event to tip off our 2017-18 season,” Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner said in a statement from the athletics department. “This is an incredible opportunity for our players and coaches to experience something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives from a cultural and educational standpoint. We’re also proud to represent the Institute and its excellent reputation in academics and athletics on this stage.”

The game is part of a Pac-12 initiative to promote the conference.

It will be the fifth meeting between UCLA and Georgia Tech in men’s basketball. UCLA holds a 3-1 series advantage.

Broadcast information will be decided later.
