Georgia Tech is advancing toward filling its broadcasting opening and could fill it in the next few weeks.
Athletic director Mike Bobinski provided that information at the ACC Kickoff event Tuesday. Bobinski said that the school received significant interest and that “the challenge has been in getting the pool down to a workable number. We’re close to that.”
Bobinski said he was hopeful that the school could begin on-campus interviews with candidates at the end of next week “and get a decision made shortly thereafter. We’re in the home stretch here now.”
Time is pressing, as the Yellow Jackets report for preseason camp Aug. 3 and play their season opener Sept. 3 against Boston College in Dublin. In 2013, when Brandon Gaudin was hired to replace longtime voice Wes Durham, the hire was made in early August.
Deputy athletic director Brett Daniels has been leading the process in conjunction with IMG, the school's multi-media rights holder. The school has been searching for a play-by-play voice after Gaudin left Tech in June to take jobs with EA Sports, the Big Ten Network and Westwood One Sports radio.
