After underwhelming practices Monday and Wednesday, the Georgia Tech defense took its turn Saturday morning. The Yellow Jackets have completed two of four weeks of spring practice.
“The defense, definitely, today was their day,” coach Paul Johnson said. “They outhit the offense and played better than the offense did when we played against each other.”
The Yellow Jackets scrimmaged for a portion of Saturday’s practice while they have typically held full scrimmages on Saturdays. Johnson said it was “because that’s the way practice was set up. We did a lot of walk-through, special teams and some different stuff.”
Johnson said fumbles by the offense helped the defense’s cause. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof said that defensive end Kenderius Whitehead made a couple noteworthy plays, as did defensive tackle Adam Gotsis. On a fourth-down play, after a teammate missed a tackle on a pass into the flat, Gotsis chased the ballcarrier down to prevent a first down.
