Against another team winless in the ACC, Georgia Tech’s slide continued Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets made a last-minute bid to win their first ACC game of the season, but fell short again at McCamish Pavilion, this time to Boston College. The Jackets absorbed their seventh consecutive loss to open league play, a 64-62 loss in which they shot less than 40 percent from the field for the third consecutive game.
Down 59-52 with 3:58 to play, Tech reeled off a 7-0 run to tie the game at 59 with 1:26 left on two free throws by forward Marcus Georges-Hunt, but Boston College scored the next four points to take the game back. Forward Quinton Stephens hit a 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds left to bring Tech to within 63-62, but after a Boston College free throw by Aaron Brown, Georges-Hunt’s desperation 3-point try was errant, and also after time had expired.
Tech (9-10 overall, 0-7) is winless after seven ACC games for just the fourth time in school history. Among the Jackets’ seven losses are two defeats to teams with first-year coaches and only one ACC win (Wake Forest and Boston College).
After the humbling 57-28 loss to No. 2 Virginia Thursday, the Jackets rallied with a relatively stronger offensive showing, scoring 38 points in the second half on 42.9 percent shooting from the field, but also permitted Boston College (9-9, 1-5) to shoot 59.1 percent from the field in the second half.
