Georgia Tech rose two spots in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night, to No. 22. The Yellow Jackets were elevated thanks to their win over N.C. State and losses by Utah, which dropped from No. 17 to 23 after losing to Oregon, and West Virginia, which was No. 23 and fell out of the top 25 with its loss to Texas.

Tech remains the fourth-ranked ACC team, behind No. 3 Florida State, No. 19 Clemson and No. 21 Duke. That order will be important if, as many project, Florida State wins the ACC title and is selected to the four-team playoff. Without the ACC champion in its game, the Orange Bowl will take the highest-ranked ACC team after the conference champion.

Tech is still in the chase for the ACC Coastal title with a 5-2 league record. Tech’s clearest path to the Coastal championship requires the Jackets to beat Clemson Saturday in its final ACC game and have Duke lose two of its final three games, against Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

“I think it’s long from being over,” coach Paul Johnson said. “But you’ve got to keep applying the pressure.”
