After a 42-week hiatus, Georgia Tech is back in the polls.

Following their 28-17 win over Miami Saturday night that improved their record to 5-0, the Yellow Jackets were voted into the top 25 of both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls, taking the Nos. 22 and 23 spots, respectively.

Tech was last ranked in Nov. 2011 heading into that season’s Georgia game. The Jackets then stayed out of the top 25 the last three weeks of that season, every week of the next two seasons and the first six polls of this season.

Last week, he Jackets received the 31st most votes in both polls and took advantage of a calamitous weekend among ranked teams in which 11 teams ranked in the AP top 25 lost, three to teams ranked ahead of them.

The prime-time platform and Tech’s play (318 rushing yards, no turnovers, three points allowed in the final three quarters) apparently made an impact. Tech managed to leapfrog past Clemson, which merely beat N.C. State 41-0 Saturday.

Last week, the Tigers were three spots ahead of Tech in both polls among teams outside the top 25. In the rankings released Sunday, Clemson is No. 25 in the coaches poll and is one spot outside the top 25 in the AP poll. Tech also jumped past Marshall, which defeated Old Dominion 56-14 Saturday to improve to 5-0.
