Former Georgia Tech cornerback Rod Sweeting put up the ninth fastest 40-yard dash time among defensive backs at the NFL scouting combine, running a 4.42 Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Sweeting was among 53 defensive backs who ran the 40. He also had a vertical jump of 37 inches, tied for 14th, 3.5 inches off of the top jump. He was less impressive in the bench press, recording 11 reps of 225 pounds, tied for 40th among defensive backs. The top score was 28 reps.

Given that one of the assessments in an nfl.com scouting report is that Sweeting would "need to prove his straight-line speed and quickness," the 40 time should build his draft stock. Sweeting figures to be selected in the back half of the draft.
