West Georgia secured its first conference win by defeating West Alabama 32-14 and remains undefeated. The game essentially was over after halftime as neither team scored in the second half.
West Georgia (5-0) dominated the first-half statistics, gaining 211 yards compared with West Alabama’s 34.
The Wolves scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams. Quarterback Dallas Dickey threw for 211 yards and a touchdown. Defensive lineman Jason Carr returned a fumble recovery for a 22-yard touchdown and receiver Telvin Brown scored on a punt return.
The Tigers (4-1) finished with 158 passing yards, but only 61 on the ground, compared with the Wolves’ 217 passing yards and 124 rushing yards.
North Alabama 34, Valdosta State 12: The Lions handed the Blazers their first loss.
North Alabama (4-0) scored first in under two minutes and never relinquished the lead. Lions quarterback Luke Wingo completed 21 of 27 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown while running back Lamon Thompson rushed for 115 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.
The Blazers (3-1) only two scores of the game came on a fumble recovery returned 35 yards in the second quarter and passing touchdown with just under three minutes left in the game.
Reinhardt 80, Bluefield 14: The Rams (0-6) were able to hang with the Eagles (5-0) for only half of the first quarter. Reinhardt and Bluefield were tied at 14-14 halfway through the first, but by halftime the Eagles led 59-14. The team kept the pressure on and scored 66 consecutive points.
The Eagles ran 69 times against the Rams for 520 yards and two backs with more than 90. Niagel Curtis had 116 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries while Isaiah Blake finished the game with 93 yards on 14 carries.
The Rams finished the game with 229 rushing yards and just 99 yards through the air. Marion Harris led the team with 79 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown.
