Georgia tailbacks Sony Michel and Keith Marshall remained under the protection of green jerseys on Tuesday. But coach Mark Richt indicated one or both could be available in relief of Nick Chubb this Saturday against Kentucky.

Michel, in particular, seems close to returning. It has been nearly six weeks since he was sidelined with a broken shoulder-blade in the first half of the Tennessee game. He was averaging a team-best 9.7 yards per carry at the time.

“He’s getting there,” Richt said Tuesday. “He’s practicing. The odds are better this week than last week, I’ll say that. We’ll know more in a couple of days. Again, we’re hopeful he can play.”

Marshall was already recovering from dual knee surgeries this when he went down with a severe sprain of his right knee and ankle on Sept. 20th against Troy. That was the Bulldogs’ third game of the season and Marshall would be eligible for a medical redshirt this year if he didn’t play again this season.

Richt would not say if that’s a consideration.

“I’m not even going to talk about that right now,” Richt said. “We’re just trying to win games.”
