It’s a celebration day for linebacker Donta Evans of Archer High in Gwinnett County.

He signed a letter of intent with Ole Miss.

Here are three things to know about Evans, who enrolled early in Oxford:

1. He moved in from South Carolina. He arrived at Archer for his senior season and committed to the Rebels in August, picking coach Hugh Freeze's program over Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Auburn. He told the Clarion-Ledger that he actually committed to Mississippi while in Oxford for a summer visit, but made it public in August in a series of posts on Twitter. Evans posted a picture with five different cakes, each decorated with the colors of his prospective programs. He ended up taking a bite of the Ole Miss cake.

2. Just foolin': Evans pulled a fast one on Auburn coach Gus Malzahn during the recruiting process. Evans acted like he was taking a still-photo selfie with the Tigers coach, but was actually shooting a video. Malzahn posed for the picture, then uncomfortably chuckled after Evans informed him that it's a video. "He didn't get it," Evans wrote sheepishly in a video post on Twitter.

3. A boost for Archer: Archer coach Andy Dyer said Evans had a confidence-boosting effect on the Tigers upon his arrival. "Donta is a very mature young man and provided our football team with a lot of confidence and leadership," Dyer said. "We are super proud of Donta, and we look forward to following his career at Ole Miss."
