Tears for Tebow
Tim Tebow’s return to Gainesville moved one young fan to tears — literally — as the Florida faithful couldn’t get enough of the Gators great during his campus appearance Friday as part of an SEC Network tour stop.
“You can tell he left an indelible mark — impression — on the people around here,” said Marcus Spears, Tebow’s co-host. “We had a girl crying. … When you can make someone cry, you’re sort of a big deal.”
For Tebow, it’s hard not to get a little sentimental when it comes to his time in Gainesville.
“All these great fans, if you give them the opportunity to make their day by taking a picture or doing something nice for them, it’s worth it for me,” he added.
Rebel thrill
Ole Miss moved to 3-0 and should be 4-0 after next week’s game against Memphis when the SEC Murderers’ Row begins: Over a span of 29 days, the Rebels will play Alabama on Oct. 4, at Texas A&M on Oct. 11, Tennessee on Oct. 18, at LSU on Oct. 25 and Auburn on Nov. 1.
Numbers game
357 Running backs Alex Collins (27-212) and Jonathan Williams (22-145) combined for 357 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns for Arkansas as coach Bret Bielema continues to play Big Ten football in his second season in the SEC.
47 Missouri collected two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, but it was the first interception that set the tone for the victory against Central Florida. The biggest man on the field, 330-pound nose tackle Josh Augusta, snared a tipped Central Florida pass at the line of scrimmage to extend Mizzou's NCAA-best takeaway streak to 47 games. Mizzou also had six sacks.
He said it
“I’m so proud of our team. I’m so proud of our coaches. I’m so proud of our fan base. For me, it’s joy and excitement. (Wins) are tough to come by.” — Coach Derek Mason who got his first career victory at Vanderbilt when Massachusetts’ kicker missed a game-tying 22-yard field-goal attempt with two seconds remaining. Based on the first three weeks, it may be the last time Mason says it this season.
