Keep the name of Chandler Tuitt, an offensive tackle from Sandy Creek, in your mind. He chose Ole Miss, and he’s athletic enough that with development he can be an NFL player.
Three things to know about Tuitt, who was among the first Ole Miss commits to get his letter faxed in Wednesday:
1. Faster than you'd think: As an eighth-grader, Tuitt, a maturing offensive lineman, finished third in the 100 meters in the county track meet. It caught the attention of Sandy Creek's coaching staff and recruiters. Tuitt played right tackle for Sandy Creek, but is projected as a guard at Ole Miss. "He'll be 315 pounds before they know it," Sandy Creek coach Chip Walker said. "And he can run."
2. Ole Miss outpost: A four-star recruit, Tuitt committed to coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels in July. He's the latest of several recent Sandy Creek products to become a Rebel. Tuitt chose Ole Miss over Ohio State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee, among others.
“They do a great job of recruiting our kids,” Walker said of the Ole Miss coaching staff. “I think the biggest thing they do is simply being here. When they have a chance, they’re here.”
3. All-around athlete: In addition to football, Tuitt played basketball and wrestled at points in his high school career. He attended mat drills recently at Sandy Creek, weighing 293 pounds.
