Georgia Tech’s no-turnover scrimmage was significant progress for the offense. It was less encouraging, obviously, for the defense, not to mention having six touchdowns scored upon it.

“There’s no doubt we’ve made some progress, but it’s very, very obvious and very, very evident that we have a long way to go,” defensive coordinator Ted Roof said. “We’ve got to get back to work and get fresh and come back and get better.”

Roof said that the Yellow Jackets need to improve upon the fundamentals – pursuit angles, attacking the ball-carrier, communicating prior to the snap, defeating blocks and pass rush, among them. The defense did have its moments, stopping the offense on the second, third and fourth possessions of the morning. Linebackers Kyle Travis and Antonio Simmons and safety Isaiah Johnson all compiled tackles for loss.

“It comes and goes,” coach Paul Johnson said. “One day, somebody wins, and the next day, somebody else wins.”
