Georgia hasn’t ruled out Malcolm Mitchell for playing in the season opener against Clemson. It hasn’t ruled him in, either.
Coach Mark Richt was asked for an update on the injured star receiver on Thursday, but didn’t provide much of one.
“I don’t know,” Richt said. “I’d just as soon not get into that.”
Mitchell, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL injury, underwent an arthroscopic procedure to repair a cartilage tear in the same knee on July 31. The junior flanker has not been on the practice field since.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are starting to get back some other important players. Inside linebacker Ramik Wilson practiced in a regular jersey for the first time in more than a week and noseguard Chris Mayes made a return under protected status. Both were thought to have had concussions.
The Bulldogs conducted their 17th practice of preseason camp and their ninth in full pads on Thursday. No. 18 will be a very important game-simulation scrimmage Friday night at Sanford Stadium. It will be the last chance for players to prove they’re ready to play.
“This scrimmage, either you know what to do or you don’t,” sophomore defensive back J.J. Green said. “The ones that do are the ones that are going to play against Clemson. That’s what this scrimmage is really about, who understands the play calls and everything.”
