Lane Kiffin, unemployed since USC unceremoniously dumped him as its coach in late September, immediately jumped to the forefront of coaches on the short list to replace former Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

Nussmeier bolted for the same job at Michigan on Wednesday and Twitter immediately lit up late last night with ideas of Kiffin replacing Nussmeier at Alabama.

Alabama coach Nick Saban respects Kiffin’s offensive mind, even inviting him to evaluate the Tide’s offense during bowl practices in December.

"Lane is a really good offensive coach, and I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for him," Saban told ESPN last month. "Just to come in and brainstorm a little bit to get some professional ideas with our guys is a really positive thing."

This is a strange bromance, a coaching odd couple. A coamance, if you will.

There’s Saban, the stoic older coach who has more rings than a jewelry store.

And there’s Kiffin, the brash young coach who likes to see his name in the lights and to throw water on grease fires.

A match made in the huddle?

It seems.
