Radakovich's moves at Georgia Tech

During his six-year tenure as Georgia Tech's athletic director Dan Radakovich paved the way for change.

Dan Radakovich was hired as Georgia Tech's athletics director in 2006. He has left his imprint in the program, improving the school's facilities and made various coaching changes.

Ten days after the dismissal of head football coach Chan Gailey, Dan Radakovich hired his replacement Paul Johnson (right). The Yellow Jackets have been in a bowl in the last five seasons and won the ACC title in 2009.

After a fourth losing season in six years, Dan Radakovich fired head basketball Paul Hewitt in March 13, 2011. Hewitt, who took the Yellow Jackets to the national championship game in 2004, will be paid a $7.2 million buyout over five years.

In quick fashion again, Dan Radakovich made a move to replace a coach. Fifteen days after firing Paul Hewitt, Tech hired Brian Gregory as its new basketball coach.

In April 2009, Georgia Tech broke ground on a new training facility for basketball. Tech Alumni Stephen Zelnak and Athletic Director Dan Radakovich were on hand for the ceremony of the new Zelnak Practice Center. The 20,000-square-foot building, which will connect to the new McCamish Pavilion's southeast side, includes a full-size court, a 24-seat theater for video instruction and a weight room.

Georgia Tech new basketball arena opens this fall after undergoing a $45 million renovation. The former Alexander Memorial Coliseum has 8,600 seats and features a new two-tone hardwood floor and a large center-hung scoreboard.

The Shirley Clements Mewborn Field, home for Tech's softball program, which was unveiled prior to the start of the 2009 season. Tech has hosted the ACC softball tournament.
