Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Ted Roof explained a couple position changes on his unit. Domonique Noble, who largely played defensive back his first three seasons, has moved to linebacker since his weight has moved into the 230-pound range. By comparison, safeties Jamal Golden and Corey Griffin both weigh less than 200 pounds. Noble was listed at 214 pounds last season.

“Unless he goes on a crash diet, he’s going to stay at linebacker,” Roof said.

Demond Smith, who was the starting nickel back last season, has moved back to safety. Simply, Roof said, Smith is a better safety than nickel. Lance Austin and Lynn Griffin are among those playing at the nickel spot.
