Georgia Tech sophomore Freddie Burden and junior Thomas O’Reilly are competing at center, with Burden going into camp at first string. Coach Paul Johnson said he feels good about the position and is no hurry to make a decision on a starter.

“We’ll make it when they sort it out, if it’s Tuesday or two weeks from Thursday,” he said.

The two are competing to replace three-year starter Jay Finch. Burden, due to a knee injury suffered in spring practice 2013, has yet to take a college snap. O’Reilly is a transfer from Auburn who played six games as a backup last season for Tech.

Burden has earned praise for his speed and explosiveness off the snap, one of a number of linemen whose agility Johnson likes.

“We’re probably a little more athletic on the offensive line than we’ve been,” Johnson said. “Maybe not as much experience, but a little bigger and a little more athletic, really.”
