After interviewing with Oklahoma, Georgia Tech defensive line coach Mike Pelton will be staying with the Yellow Jackets. Pelton confirmed the decision Monday by text message.

The decision was reported earlier Monday by Jacketsonline. Pelton had interviewed with Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops for the same position on his staff.

“The only reason I went to interview at Oklahoma was to explore my options and that is a part of coaching,” Pelton told Jacketsonline. “I love Georgia Tech and wanted to stay here with my family.”

Pelton recently completed his second season on Tech’s staff and helped defensive tackle Adam Gotsis earn second-team All-ACC honors from both the coaches and media this past season. He also aided in the development of defensive end KeShun Freeman, who was named to the USA Today and ESPN true freshman All-America team.

His third season at Tech will represent his longest stay at any school since a six-year stint at Troy for the 2001-2006 seasons.
