After the Kennesaw State’s first win of the season over Point, the Owls used their bye week to rest and rehab injured starters before their next game against Duquesne on Sept. 24.

With no football practice on Monday and Tuesday, the Owls dove into preparation on Wedensday for Duquesne — the reigning Northeast Conference champions.

“I didn’t know whole lot about them coming in, but you go watch them play and we’re awfully impressed and I think for us as we are young team aspiring to be in the playoffs and aspiring to compete a championships we get a chance to on the road play a playoff team,” coach Brian Bohannon said. “I don’t think there’s anything better as far as a measuring stick, we’ll call it a measuring stick, to see where we are a little bit and see how we compete on the road in a completely different environment against a playoff team.”

The coaching staff began film study of Duquesne on Wednesday and will begin their preliminary game plan before Duquesne plays Dayton on Saturday.

The Owls began film study on Wednesday of the errors in Saturday’s 49-3 win over Point.

“We’re moving in the right direction of trying to put together that complete game,” quarterback Chandler Burks said. “We’re still a long ways away, so the focus right now is taking that game film, learning from it, and now preparing for Duquesne coming up. We have a two extra days, three including today, to go ahead and start preparing for those guys. We got to go out there and get a road win.”

Burks is the most likely starter at quarterback next week against Duquesne while starting quarterback Trey White is still struggling with an adductor injury.

In the Owls’ long preparation week, Bohannon wants for his young team to demonstrate a championship effort in each snap.

“I think we got to continue to get better in the fundamental stuff we do,” Bohannon said. “We’ll continue to get better at what we do. Obviously, it starts with working a little bit on the opponent, but I think so much of what we’re doing here is about us more than it is about who we play. Every chance we get to go out and work on the stuff is great.”

Bohannon and coaching staff will be focused on error correction, extra conditioning and game planning leading up to their trip to Pittsburgh, Pa.
