The Jacob Park saga has finally come to a close.

The Georgia Bulldogs halted their efforts to convince the redshirt freshman quarterback to remain at UGA. The school announced late Thursday afternoon that Park will be seeking an immediate transfer.

“We’ve had conversations during which we discussed all the viewpoints,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “In the end, he feels like the opportunity for significant playing time would be better at another school. I can understand his decision, and we’ll support him in finding a good fit at another institution.”

Park, who besides a Facebook post has remained mostly silent since deciding to leave two days ago, also issued a statement.

“I want to thank Coach Richt and Georgia for the experience I’ve had in Athens,” Park said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity but now look forward to what’s next in my college career.”

A native of Goose Creek, S.C., and graduate of Stratford High School, Park leaves Georgia without ever playing in a game. He worked mostly with the scout team in 2014 as a true freshman and was third on the depth chart behind Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta after spring practice this year.

Park’s chances for playing time were further diminished when Greyson Lambert announced last week his intentions to transfer to Georgia from Virginia. Lambert started nine games for the Cavaliers as a redshirt sophomore last season.

The 6-foot-4, 202-pound Park entered Georgia as an early enrollee in January of 2014. He came as a consensus 4-star prospect after passing for 3,665 yards and 33 touchdowns while leading Stratford to the Class AAAA state championship in Division II.
