Former Georgia Tech safety Isaiah Johnson was honored with the Peach of an Athlete Amateur Role Model award by the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America this past Tuesday. A three-year starter, Johnson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tech in five years, was a three-time member of the ACC academic honor roll and twice earned the team’s defensive effort award. Johnson, from Sandy Creek High, also served homeless in the Midtown area by bringing them leftover team dinners. …

Georgia Tech’s Saturday morning scrimmage was attended by several junior prospects and their families. Among the most notable in attendance was offensive tackle Bailey Byrum from Sweetwater, Tenn. A number of the prospects posed for pictures with quarterback Justin Thomas. … Former players Deon Hill, Omoregie Uzzi and Tevin Washington were in attendance. … Tech will continue with four more practices this coming week. The spring game is April 17 at Bobby Dodd Stadium at 7 p.m.

8/26/17 - Atlanta, GA - Georgia leaders, including Gov. Nathan Deal, Sandra Deal, members of the King family, and Rep. Calvin Smyre,  were on hand for unveiling of the first statue of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday at the statehouse grounds, more than three years after Gov. Nathan Deal first announced the project.  During the hour-long ceremony leading to the unveiling of the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the state Capitol on Monday, many speakers, including Gov. Nathan Deal, spoke of King's biography.
