BRADENTON, Fla. - Georgia finished its third round at the NCAA golf championship early Monday morning in the same position it ended it Sunday night, when play was suspended due to lightning – in first place.

At the Concession Golf Club, the Bulldogs began Sunday in third place at 5-over par, seven shots behind leader USC, but overtook the Trojans by playing 4-under before play was halted late in the afternoon. Monday morning, with its five players spread from the 15th tee to the 18th green, the Bulldogs lost two shots to par but still controlled the leaderboard. Georgia enters the fourth round at 3-over for the tournament with a third-round score of 2-under-par 286, its lowest round of the tournament.

The 30-team field was cut to 15 after the third round.

Tech, which completed its round Sunday before the suspension of play, is tied for eighth with UCLA at 14-over. Tension will heighten Monday, particularly for the Yellow Jackets. The top eight teams after the fourth round will move on to quarterfinals. While the Bulldogs have an 11-shot cushion over the No. 8 slot as the fourth round began Monday, the Jackets are logjammed with three other teams between 13-over and 16-over. The Jackets have some momentum, having also shot their best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 2-over-par 290.

Georgia will begin play at 11:20 a.m. with second-place USC and third-place LSU. Georgia Tech’s tee times begin at 11:40 with South Florida and UCLA.

Live results are available at golfstat.com and the tournament will begin live coverage on the Golf Channel beginning at 12:30 p.m. A preview of the fourth round will begin at 11 a.m.

Five of the six SEC teams who qualified for the championship have made it through to the fourth round – Georgia, LSU, Vanderbilt, Auburn and South Carolina. Tech is one of two ACC teams remaining, Florida State being the other. Virginia, Duke and Clemson did not make the cut.
