A significant piece of the Georgia Tech offense will return for Saturday’s game against No. 6 Clemson. Wide receiver Micheal Summers will play after practicing this week, coach Paul Johnson said after Wednesday’s practice.
“That’ll be huge,” Johnson said. “You get a guy that’s played. I think he’s had a good week of practice, so we’ll see.”
Summers missed the past two games, losses to Duke and North Carolina, after suffering a shoulder injury against Notre Dame. Summers was the only returning wide receiver with significant experience this season and had shown a connection with quarterback Justin Thomas before his injury. Tech has had a scarcity of big plays in part because of shortcomings in the passing game and also perimeter blocking, areas Summers can directly impact.
First-year freshman Brad Stewart has started in Summers’ absence and would likely move down to the No. 3 receiver spot. Johnson said that A-back Broderick Snoddy’s status will be announced on the Thursday injury report. Snoddy injured his hand in the Duke game and sat out the North Carolina game with his hand in a cast.
“We’ll know (Thursday) whether he’s going to play or not,” Johnson said.
Snoddy would likewise be a significant addition to the lineup. Snoddy may be the fastest player on the team and can give the offense a dynamic threat on the perimeter. He has 16 carries for 175 yards with a long run of 48 yards this season.
