Georgia Tech continued the fortification of its offensive line with the fifth commitment from an offensive line prospect for the 2020 signing class. Michael Rankins, from Lennard High in Ruskin, Fla., announced his commitment on Monday.

Rankins is the highest-rated offensive line prospect to commit to Tech and coach Geoff Collins. He is the No. 479 prospect nationally (247 Sports composite), the fourth highest rating among all of Tech’s 19 committed recruits. Rankins had also listed offers from Auburn and Florida State, among others.

Offensive line coach Brent Key is in need of significant reinforcement on his line. There are 14 scholarship offensive linemen on the roster and five are seniors. There are no scholarship offensive linemen in the incoming freshman class.

Rankins, listed at 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, shows good footwork, lateral quickness and power in his highlight video. He is the fourth prospect listed at offensive tackle. He is also the fifth prospect from the state of Florida, the second most from any state after Georgia (10).
