Georgia held its fourth of 15 spring practices – and its second in full pads – on Tuesday, with senior defensive end David Marshall making his first appearance in drills.

The 6-foot-3, 274-pound Marshall suffered a foot injury – called a Lisfranc, or midfoot, injury -- against Vanderbilt in early October and missed the remainder of the season.

“David Marshall was able to do a little more today than he’s been doing coming off the Lisfranc injury,” coach Kirby Smart said. “Hopefully, he will continue to do that.

Marshall, who said he was feeling “a little bit sore” after practice isn’t expected to do a lot this spring, but he’ll take progress wherever he can find it.

“Being back for the first day, it was really my first time out there with the team, so it felt pretty good, getting back right and getting back to the process,” said Marshall, who added he was feeling “a little bit sore” and that he’s limited for now to running. “I can’t plant yet, so all I can do is just run forward.”

In the six games where he appeared in 2018, Marshall recorded six tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass break-up.

Smart said he looks forward to seeing progress as quickly as possible from Marshall.

“He was injured, then he was out for a while, we got him fixed, he's taking the screws out now, he's taking the next step, coming back now,” Smart said. “He's got to progress now because he gets sore each time he uses it because he hasn't used it in a while."
