Georgia Tech great Mark Price does not want to be considered for the coaching opening at his alma mater. Price just finished his first season at Charlotte.

“I wish my alma mater Georgia Tech well in its search for a new coach,” Price said in a statement released over the weekend. “I am committed to the Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball program. I am excited and very encouraged by the progress that we made this past season.”

Price had interviewed for the job in 2011, which ultimately went to Brian Gregory. In his first season at Charlotte, the 49ers finished with a 14-19 record overall and 9-9 in Conference USA despite losing three starters to transfer. The previous season, Charlotte was 14-18 and 7-11. Four starters return next season, and three are freshmen.

“I am excited about the players that we have returning to our team and the progress that they made this past season,” Price said in the statement. “I am also excited about the players that we are adding to our team and what they will provide for our program moving forward. I feel that the future is bright as we continue to build something special here at Charlotte.”
